The Spice Souk

The spice souk also famously known as the old souk is a traditional old market common in Middle Eastern countries. The one in Dubai is a must visit because of its historic architecture, its traditional wind towers and an assortment of spices, fabrics, incense, rugs, handicrafts and historic artifacts.

The spice souk is littered with both open and covered shops selling all kinds of goods. If you plan on shopping here be prepared to haggle, sometimes shopkeepers will reduce prices by up to 50%. Go during the day and you will surely enjoy the colorful display of spices in jute sacks.

The spice souk in Dubai is situated in eastern Dubai in a locality called Deira on Sikkat al Khail road and is adjacent to another great place called the Gold Souk.

There are three ways of visiting the spice souk.

1. If you are staying in a hotel in the Deira side of Dubai, you can ask for directions and walk it the souk should be walking distance from your hotel.

2. You can get a cab; every cabbie in Dubai will know how to drive you to the spice souk.

3. Some tour operators have city tours of Dubai that include a trip to the spice souk but this is not recommended because they only visit for a very short time and you would not be able to enjoy the trip if you are hurried.

The spice souk is a good place even to see and window shop, you get to see how an arab market used to be in the olden days.

Dubai as a wedding destination

Dubai with its wonderful white sand beaches, amazing 7 star hotels, romantics resorts and an endless number of shopping destinations has become one of the most popular wedding destinations. Thanks to the boom in the tourism industry it is now much easier to get married in Dubai, and you can be sure a Dubai wedding will be remembered forever not just by you but by all your friends and family who are privileged to attend.

If you are not too tight on the budget you can contact a wedding planning service and they will arrange everything for you including hotels, meals, tours etc. These days even tour operators are doing weddings so it would be wise to get in touch with some and find out what they would charge to arrange the whole thing.

A cheaper option is having a Church wedding, and making the rest of the arrangements yourself, in this way you would save a lot of money and plan the whole wedding according to your wishes, almost all churches in dubai can be found online, you can email them and they are very cooperative in giving you all the details and requirements they will even give you contacts for associated services. You can book hotels online for a cheaper price, as well as plan the dinners and tours for your guests, on a small budget you can do a lot if you do it yourself.

NOTE: Make sure before your arrival all your required paperwork (Church or Wedding planner will guide you) is complete otherwise it can be a huge hassle.

What is Dubai

Dubai is a city that offers a lot of things to do for visitors. It is the tourism capital of Asia/ Middle East and is on a fast track to becoming the tourism capital of the world. The country is spending a lot of money on tourism infrastructure so lately we see a lot of tourists around. Dubai has the best of both the East and the West, you will find a rich eastern culture, you will also find that people who live here are mostly expatriates from all over the world creating a nice mix of different cultures, you can find foods, dresses and other stuff from all over the world. On the other hand it is probably one of the most liberal Islamic states with quite a lot of clubs, concerts all the time and amazing places to eat and hang out at.
